Scholarship Description:The International Max Planck Research School for Neural Circuits offers an educational program with a large variety of different courses:

* Introductory course to meet the researchers of Frankfurt neuroscience and get to know each other
* Modern topics in neuroscience in which you will learn about the key concepts and topics of studies
* Modern techniques in neuroscience which cover the a range of modern neuroscience, biological and analytical techniques used to address questions in neuroscience
* Transferable skills like how to write scientific papers, present in English and write a research grant
* Language courses (English and German)

Also offered are:
* Rotations to select the most suitable research group to do your PhD
* Exchange programmes to excellent research groups abroad
* Lecture series including a meet and greet with the lecturer
* PhD retreat
* Scientific conferences to attend

Requirements
The programme is taught in English and is open for highly motivated and excellent students from all countries in the world holding a relevant Master´s or a Bachelor’s degree.

Fellowship Programmes (NFP) at the University of Twente, Netherlands

The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) fosters capacity building within organizations in 61 developing countries by providing training and education to their mid-career staff members at the University of Twente. The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes is an initiative of the Dutch government.

Applicants must

  • be a national and working in one of the countries above
  • be a mid-career professional with at least three years work experience
  • be nominated by his/her employer
  • have been unconditionally admitted by the University of Twente to one of the master degree programmes
  • have completed an NFP Master’s Degree Programme application form and have submitted all the required documentation to the Netherlands embassy or consulate
  • not be employed by a large industrial, commercial, international or multinational organization
  • offer evidence of proficiency in speaking and writing the language of instruction
  • be available for the entire period of the programme and be physically and mentally able to take part in the entire programme
  • declare that they will return to their home country immediately after the study programme has ended
  • comply with country-specific rules set by RNE (for more information please contact the Netherlands Embassy or consulate in your home country)
  • candidate must not have received an NFP fellowship or any other fellowship in the three years prior to the start of the proposed programme (MA, SC or PhD)

Deadline for Application

  • Study programmes starting in the first quarter 2011: 1 October 2010 except for Tanzania and Bangladesh
  • Study programmes starting in the third quarter 2011: 1 March 2011 except for Uganda, Tanzania, Indonesia and Bangladesh

• You are conducting research on cognitive networking solutions in the framework of European-level and national research projects.
• You are analyzing the current wireless network technologies thoroughly and you are developing new network algorithms and concepts, e.g. intelligent cross-network negotiation strategies, distributed optimization algorithms based on gaming theory or machine learning, distributed network monitoring, wireless network management, auto-configuration techniques for wireless networks…
• You are building up hands-on experience by implementing these network concepts and by evaluating through experimental validation on a large-scale wireless testbed or through detailed simulations.
• Depending on your own interests and motivation, this research can lead to a PhD

Profile

• You have a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Informatics or Electronics. You are acquainted with the low programming languages (C, C++, NesC). Experience and a strong interest in existing or new wireless network technologies are a plus.
• You are interested to do research in an academic environment for a 4 years period in view of a PhD degree.


• You are able to plan and carry out your tasks in an independent way.
• You have strong analytical skills to interpret the obtained research results.
• You are a responsible, communicative and flexible person.
• You are a team player.
• You respect the predetermined milestones in research projects.
• Your English is fluent, both speaking and writing.
